In the Loop

I've written about Caroline before, and her great blog and YouTube channel. The other day she began a video series to teach another blog friend how to knit, inviting us all along. I was game! I love learning new things...a trait fostered by my Grandma Val. She visited a couple times a year when I was growing up and she always brought some new craft to teach me. I have fond memories of basket making, crochet, different Christmas ornaments...all kinds of crafty endeavors!

So learning to knit is right up my alley! In her first video, Caroline gave us a supply list and I had no problem finding the needed yarn and needles. Thanks, to Pixie at David's Yarn in Edmond, OK!

Now, I know one way to "cast on."

I also learned how to do the knit stitch! My tension is terrible but better than the first twenty times I knitted this swatch! Practise, practise.

Ha! Just what I need, another hobby, right? I may never progress to more than dishcloths but I'm having fun learning. Want to join in?

Thank you for visiting my blog today!

  1. Congratulations on your foray into knitting. I think I will just admire from a distance, the last thing I need is more new starts in ANY hobby!

    Have fun!!

  2. Yesssss, learn to knit! It's not so scary right? And you're braver than me; I didn't start on circulars. And I cast on like 8 billion times over and over for practice :D

  3. Looking good! I've tried to knit multiple times...and it was the tension issue that made me give up on knitting. So. When I feel like playing with yarn...I'll stick to my trusty crochet hook! lol! Have fun!

  4. Dishcloths were my favorite way to learn... you can practice all types of stitches and work on your tension and still end up with something usable at the end!

  5. Yes, you need another hobby!!! :)

Your knitting looks fantastic! I think your tension looks good and if it's not great a good blocking (soaking in water and then stretching into shape) is always a great help.

  7. This looks great! I haven't managed to master the knack of knitting, I've tried a couple of times with very little success! I think I'll stick to the stitching :)
