It's the New Moon, time for the Totally Useless Stitch A Long! Unfortunately, I have no ORTs at all. Zip.
Zilch.

Remember last New Moon, I was kinda griping about wasting time and such? I decided the biggest thing keeping me from crafting was the state of my house. I simply cannot feel "free to be me" if I have other obligations that need doing first.

Objective One. Get the house cleaned up! Bright and early October 2nd I waded in, one room at a time. Everything got cleaned. Once I had the house clean, I started on my sewing studio. I had gotten about half way with the studio last week, when I had to take a break to go help my dad.

You see, my mom suffers from Lewy Body Dementia and cannot be left alone at all. Dad had some errands that needed running so my daughter and I went to spend the day visiting and watching out for mom. It was uneventful. Mom just slept. Jess and I sat at the kitchen table chatting.

Then the bed alarm went off and I jumped up in a rush! Dad had warned us mom keeps ending up on the floor. Somehow, I tripped on air (there was nothing there) and face planted myself. Jess wrangled mom while I tried to sort myself out. We finally ended up calling my dad to come home so Jess could take me to the hospital.

I broke my right (dominant) arm just below the shoulder. No cast, no surgery,  just a sling and pain pills while it heals. I also skinned both knees, both elbows and must have really wrenched my big toe because it’s black and blue.

I am in quite a lot of pain, grouchy and moody. My dog doesn’t understand I can’t play fetch. I feel like a toddler getting my meat cut up and eating clumsy with my left hand. In fact, this post was clumsily tapped out with my left hand, with many painful shift key applications by my right hand. My studio is in shambles and I can't do anything about it.

Bonnie Hunter's Mystery Quilt is kicking off soon, something I was looking forward to all year, and I might not be healed enough to do it.

Enough whinging! I will have to get by with vicarious crafting! Go blog people! It's all I have!

=^..^=

  1. Go visit Madame Pomfrey and have yourself a bottle of Skele-gro! I've been knitting Cobwebs and have a small pile of ORTs to show.

I wish you a happy Halloween and a speedy recovery.

  2. Oh my goodness, Sharon! I'm so sorry you broke your arm!! Please be good to yourself, and don't get impatient so you can heal quickly. Guess you can get a lot of reading done! Maybe watch some Flosstube, lol!

  3. I dislocated my elbow last year. Shattered my radial head and had to have surgery. I understand where you are right now. All these things that you had planned will wait. Sleep, eat healthy, and do your therapy when ready. There is a reason why you were made to stop. See if you can find that reason. And breath. You'll be back in no time!

  10. OK. So all this stress about house cleaning and not being productive has been taken out of your hands - no pun intended. So, please, just accept it and take this time to heal and rest. Right now, you can’t be super active - so - just breathe, slowly and steadily. Irene xxx

  19. Oh my goodness! That was a horrible fall! Rest as much as you can....and hopefully you'll be good to stitch soon!
I do agree with you about being able to sew/create better/more enjoyably with a clear mind/clean house though...

  21. Hi Sharon, I have just been through this as a caretaker for my MIL. She is 88 years old and unsteady on her feet. She was using a walker and when she fell she ended up having to use a cane with the non-dominant hand. She just finished her PT on Monday and she had broken it on June 2. She is old and has osteoporosis so her healing was slow and steady. I believe your healing time will be faster. Take your time and allow it to heal. Apparently your spirit guides felt there was no other way to get you to slow down and get yourself sorted. Needlework will be good therapy for stiff fingers when it is time. Now sit and allow yourself to be Queen Daffycat and enjoy being waited on.

  29. Oh no Sharon! I am just healing up from my work injury and this has happened to you. I understand about the grumpy moody part though. So take care of yourself and have patience. Once I realized my lot in life after my injury i.e. doctor ordered rest and physical restrictions, it became easier to deal with:)

Right now my craft room is the messiest room in the house (with exception to my youngest son's room!) and I need to work on that.

  32. That is just dreadful! I understand totally after having a fall in August.
Hope you heal up quickly and can play along with the mystery, even if you just sew a few blocks to keep up.

  34. Looks and sounds like me 2 1/2 years ago, yes I have been that long with this broken arm.. just had 4th op. and praying it will have been successful. A word of advice, if after 3 months your humerus bone is not showing signs of being healed, insist on surgery, I wish I had and if I had I wouldn't still have a useless arm now!

  35. I am so sorry to hear you broke your shoulder!!! Oh hon! I will be praying for a speedy recovery!!! Sending HUGE HUGS and lots of prayers!!
